Broadcast Design and Production
The Department of Television Studies offers associate’s and bachelor’s degrees and preparation for a professional career in broadcast journalism, commercial video production, and an ever-growing field of emerging visual and media technologies. Classroom study is complemented by extensive hands-on experience in video photojournalism, linear and nonlinear editing, on-camera performance, and broadcast news reporting and writing at both the introductory and advanced levels.
The hands-on nature of the program — through LSC-TV News 7, internships, field trips, regional conference participation, and national convention attendance — is unmatched in all of New England.
A history of success.
At Lyndon we don’t play television. We do it for real, every day. LSC is one of only 25 schools in the US to produce a daily, live newscast. The department has a national reputation for its Emmy award-winning, News 7, which is broadcast to more than 9,000 homes and enjoys affiliations with CNN and the Associated Press. News 7 has won over 60 awards since 1995. We have the broadcast technology to match. The department is home to a state-of-the-art server-based Avid nonlinear video editing system, as well as broadcast DV and DVCPro field production gear.
Student professionals.
The department sponsors four student chapters of recognized broadcast professional organizations including: the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT), and the Radio Television News Directors Association (RTNDA).
